Nature of work:
Building & Grounds/ Laborer: Full-time work related to collection system and general maintenance of sanitary sewer. Full-time work related to collection system and general maintenance with particular emphasis on Inspections, MISS DIG staking and oversight of underground public construction projects (in conjunction with Authority engineer). Also assist with administrative inquiries, easements, specialty projects and enforcement (grease + sump pump). Also work of a general nature for Buildings and Grounds upkeep. Under the general direction of the Field Services Manager, 80% of work performed is unsupervised. Requires on-call duties on a rotational basis.
Examples of work:
- MISS DIG staking, homeowner hookup inspection, assistance to engineer on inspection.
- Drafting / Drawing sketches + updating plans
- Construction inspection + connection inspection
- Operating closed circuit television (CCTV) camera for sewer pipe inspections
- Repairs of manholes and underground infrastructure.
- Collection system preventive maintenance, scheduling, and recording.
- Provide assistance to office manager with homeowner complaints or inquiries requiring physical inspection and public relations – occasional only.
- Logging work performed into Computer Maintenance Management System
- Perform janitorial duties of work areas.
- Perform yard work of work areas.
- Assist in routine maintenance of vehicles / fleet.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
- Back up person for vacations, inspections and utility staking
Required knowledge and abilities:
- General infrastructure ability and knowledge for manhole and pipe repair.
- General heavy equipment operations as needed.
- Ability to understand and work from sketches, blueprints, electrical drawing, etc.
- Ability to write legibly and to draw accurately.
- General carpentry skills, general tool handling and/or repair skills.
- Ability to perform well while unsupervised.
- Equipment knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to become MISS DIG Certified
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrable blueprint interpretation ability.
- General tool handling skills.
- Possession of current valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Physical requirement of bending, lifting and climbing.
Desirable Qualifications:
- CDL license with tanker endorsement.
- Equipment operation experience.
- Prior plumbing or underground construction experience.
- Basic safety skills.
- Construction methods and knowledge of sewer hookups.
- One year of public works or public relations experience.
